V:tM Review of Sects and Clans

Camarilla

Brujah

During the war they unquestionably held the most influence over Croat paramilitary forces. As the paramilitary slowly dissolved and were absorbed by the newly formed army, Brujah influence dwindled. Today they are fighting for control over the police and the army with clan Ventrue. Their main strength in this conflict lies in their influence over the Homeland war veterans associations. The existence of paramilitary forces is largely denied by just about everybody, but if they do exist (and they do, trust me) Brujah are the only ones who are able to control them.

Most active members of this Clan were the ones who stood against the Advanced Brujah Experiment. This upraise is to blame the inner division of the Clan, as Childe rose against Sire, brother against brother. So to put it simply (and for me to remember at a later date) most Brujah involved in the game are the ones who opposed the ABE (any similarity to dead US presidents is purely coincidental).

Gangrel

The involvement of Gangrel in everyday politics is minimal, but they do maintain a certain degree of power. The few resources they control are the Green Party (political) through which they are mainly trying to organize some sort of forest fire control agency similar to Forrest Rangers of the USA. It is rumored that they got involved in the Homeland war because of an ancient Gangrel called Morana. On the other hand there are rumours saying she died during WW II, if not even before.

Also something is strange between them and Gypsies of this region, something is amiss and it looks like Gangrel are on the brink of war with the Gypsies, and maybe even Ravnos.

Malkavian

They manage to confuse to hell out of everyone. Nobody knows what their goals are. Some say that the war was a prank. One thing is certain; they have more power than they let on. The clan has managed to undermine the problem of post-traumatic stress syndrome in the post-war era, and remember not only soldiers who fought in the war are affected but the people who lived in the war struck regions too.

Ventrue

The period after the Homeland war allowed many mortals to gain substantial wealth in a way so illegal that the power of Ventrue diminished because they withdrew from most endeavours. The reason for backing off was simple – they saw that such blatant disregard of laws and morals would lead to serious inspections, and they did not want to risk multiple breaches of the Masquerade, they could afford themselves a decade to wait.

As the game starts the political situation is changing and the Ventrue are getting back into the game. (that should have been in 1998)

One of the Clan’s traditions, which has survived for centuries, is the Tradition of Naming. On the night of a young vampire’s release into Kindred society, which usually coincides, with the day of his Embrace, his Sire gives him a Latin name. This custom preformed on a Ventrue only party, and is thus witnessed by many of the Clan. This is one of the reasons why it is very difficult to pose as a local Ventrue. The Tradition evolved from simple usage of Latin in the Middle Ages, through Renaissance fashion and, later on, Latin being the official language in Croatia during the Austro-Hungary reign.

Sabbat

Assamite antitribu

Their presence has been limited in the past, but as the war grew in intensity, and as it spread to Bosnia more and more of these Kindred have surfaced. Now there are rumours of secret meeting of Assamites from both sides of the fence. Some say that they are uniting, some whisper that they have never divided, some are too scared to think, and think they do about Assamites rising in numbers never imagined – ravaging through Europe with their fang drawn and swords unsheathed.

Brujah antitribu

Of the few Brujah to escape from Ambrosius’s purges have either died, ran to Russia or joined with Sabbat. They might prove a useful tool for the Sabbat as spies with inside knowledge of the enemy. Their numbers are very low.

Independent Clans

Assamite

A clan with great interest in the area, especially Bosnia. As there are Muslim Slavs (results of Turkish occupation and long wars with them) I think that they have a very good base in Bosnia (they used the war in Bosnia to import great number of Assassins under the guise of Mujahedin who came to help Moslem Bosnians). Another of my ideas (a really big one but I think that you will agree that it sounds only too logically for a clan of assassins, so I beg you to think it over several times and please consult others in European Camarilla if need arises) is that Assamite base of operations for Europe, since 1995, has moved to Bosnia. The base is a copy of Almut (because of its importance and proximity to Vienna) and is located in a secret military installation inside a mountain (those suckers have miles of corridors and supplies are almost too plentiful), former JNA (The People’s Army of Yugoslavia, don’t know the official translation) had a contingency plan: if Yugoslavia had been attacked by NATO forces they would back up into those suckers and were sure that they could hold out for at LEAST ten years (understand why I think it is logical for Assamites to plant their roots here?)

Followers of Set

Not an important factor, especially in Zagreb. Some Ventrue and Brujah have taken their sphere of influence. Surely there is presence of this clan, but as an NPC, and that is questionable (again talking for Zagreb and northern part of the land). I was mostly thinking about the Balkan Connection (an infamous passage for drugs going from Asia to Europe), but that will most probably fall in the lap of Ravnos.

Giovanni

As for now I have only an idea for a branch of Giovanni family in Croatia, but they are a must must. I think that they will be allowed as semi-NPCs. With the amount of mass murders, mass graves and the general amount of killing during the war they most certainly have some interest in Croatia. (Medical examiners assigned to investigate the corpses from those mass graves sound interesting)

A few centuries old Croatian family is now allowed to surface and, by the instructions of the Giovanni himself, they are to provide necessary support for the Camarilla. In Zagreb there might be one or two from the Clan and they should act as coordinators for the rest of the Clan in the region.

The original idea was for them to be a Giovanni branch from Dubrovnik, still carrying their name – Kotruljevic. The pun was twofold. First, Giovanni are from Venice, a long-time rival of Dubrovnik (Ragusa), and the last name I wanted to use (and the Sire of that branch) was the man who came up with the modern book keeping method (using two books).

Ravnos

This clan has medium influence in Croatia since its separation from Yugoslavia. The bulk of power stayed in Serbia. I think that they should be allowed as PCs, at the worst (have to take a look at the rules and think some more) as semi-NPCs. Members of this clan have an alliance with younger Brujah. The alliance grew from hatred (because of the oppressions Gypsies suffered under the rule of The Brujah Council in Yugoslavia) to rational communication (Ravnos were one of the most important gun smugglers for the young Brujah who worked for independence of Croatia.)
